Toulouse has a big German community, of course mainly due to Airbus. In the past years, several restaurants and food trucks have opened and many meet-up groups have been put in place. Here are our tips on how to discover our culture in the South-West of France.
Where to enjoy a German meal
Hans’l & Bretz’l has become a must around Toulouse. If you want to enjoy some great German sausages, sauerkraut, any many more specialities served with delicious German beer, then either go to the food truck or to the Biergarten in Aussonne. It’s a nice place to sit outside, enjoy some good food.
Food Truck: you can meet them every day at a different location (Blagnac, Cornebarrieu, Colomiers). Find the schedule here.
Biergarten: 5 chemin de Périac, Aussonne
The beer garden is normally open from Easter until autumn. Check their Facebook page for special openings like Father’s Day on 10th May where they do a special barbecue from 5pm. If you would like to support Germany during the World Cup, they will show all matches on big screens.
Apfelstrudel is a small restaurant in Blagnac (close to Odyssud). They offer homemade lunch and delicious cakes, like Apfelstrudel, Black Forest Gâteau, Cheese Cake, etc. to very affordable prices. The slice of cake is only €3. Eat in or take your cake with you for a nice afternoon in the park Odyssud.
Tuesday to Friday 8h-18h, Saturday to Sunday 10h-18h
2 cheminement des Sophoras, Blagnac
This bar recently opened at the former location of “La Plage” in Saint-Michel. They have a great garden in the backyard open during summer and offer German meals such as Currywurst with fries, Apfelstrudel and many more. Not everything on the menu is typically German (so be careful not to make wrong assumptions about the German culture), but the meat is really good, provided by the same butcher than the meat at Hans’l & Bretz’l.
Tuesday to Friday : 12h-14h / 17h-02h, Saturday 17h-03h
60 Grande Rue Saint-Michel, Toulouse
